A couple of weeks ago I was talking to my amazing friend Zareen of Hazardous Journey Productions about the amount of time our kids spend on their devices.
Zareen and husband Rob are in the midst of making a documentary showing us how to keep our kids safe online. They talk about what our kids are accessing and doing online, how frequently, different ways kids can get exposed, what can happen as a result, show you ways to start those overwhelming conversations, and allow you to walk away from the talk being able to do something straight away to help our kids emotionally and on a practical level. You can follow their journey on Facebook. I have to admit the iPad has become a regular feature in our lives and our active child is not outdoorsy as she once was. Partly because it's winter and partly because she's discovered You Tube, Roblox and Minecraft. So we hatched a plan to get our kids off their devices for an afternoon of cupcake decorating instead and came up with these super cute Sunbathing Teddy Bear Cupcakes. If you're looking for ways to get your kids off the couch, bring them along to one of our cupcake decorating classes, they're great fun for all ages. SUNBATHING TEDDY BEAR CUPCAKES You will need: 12 cupcakes (you can use a box or try the Chelsea Winter crazy chocolate cake recipe) 2 cups of buttercream (beat 1 cup icing sugar and 1 cup softened butter with a tablespoon of milk) tinted light blue 12 tiny teddies 12 cocktail umbrellas Crushed vanilla biscuits 4 rainbow sour strips To assemble: Wait til the cupcakes are cool, and spread with a layer of blue buttercream. Sprinkle half with crushed biscuits Chop the rainbow strips to make beach towels Use a little icing to attach your teddy to its towel Add a cocktail umbrella Eat and enjoy!
